Cardiology Coder - Physician
Job Title: Physician Cardiology Coder
Overview: As a Physician Cardiology Coder, you will play a crucial role in accurately documenting and coding medical procedures and services related to cardiology. Your expertise will ensure that healthcare facilities receive proper reimbursement for the services provided, while also maintaining compliance with coding regulations and guidelines. Attention to detail, a deep understanding of medical terminology and coding systems, and a commitment to accuracy are essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities:

Coding and Documentation: Review medical records, procedural notes, and other relevant documentation to accurately assign CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes for cardiology procedures, diagnoses, and services.

Compliance: Ensure compliance with coding guidelines, regulations, and standards set forth by governmental agencies (such as CMS), third-party payers, and medical coding organizations (such as AAPC and AHIMA).

Audit Support: Collaborate with internal audit teams or external auditors to provide support during coding audits, ensuring that coded data is accurate and supported by documentation.

Education and Training: Stay updated on changes in coding guidelines, regulations, and technology related to cardiology coding. Provide education and training to physicians, clinicians, and coding staff to enhance documentation accuracy and coding proficiency.

Query Resolution: Work closely with physicians and other healthcare providers to resolve documentation and coding discrepancies, ensuring accurate representation of services provided.

Revenue Cycle Management: Support revenue cycle management by facilitating timely and accurate coding, which directly impacts reimbursement and revenue generation for the healthcare facility.

Quality Improvement: Identify opportunities for improvement in documentation practices, coding workflows, and revenue cycle processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Collaboration: Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, coding specialists, and administrative staff, to optimize coding processes and ensure comprehensive documentation of cardiology services.
Qualifications:

Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification required. Additional specialty certifications in cardiology coding preferred.

In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and cardiology procedures.

Proficiency in CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems, with a focus on cardiology coding guidelines and conventions.

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex medical documentation and accurately assign codes.

Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software applications.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
