Job Title: Medical Assistant
Location: North Austin
Position Type: Contract to Hire
Pay:  $18-20/hr.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet patients, verify personal and medical information, and document medical history.
  • Measure and record vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, weight, etc.).
  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist with positioning during procedures.
  • Assist in endoscopy and other gastrointestinal procedures as directed by the physician.
  • Provide patient education on gastrointestinal conditions, procedures, and post-treatment care.
  • Assist with preparing and cleaning equipment for procedures such as colonoscopies, endoscopies, and biopsies.
  • Handle specimens and perform basic laboratory tests (e.g., stool tests, blood draws).
  • Maintain and manage patient medical records using the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Prepare and administer medications and injections as prescribed by the physician.
  • Assist with follow-up care, including scheduling tests, treatments, and lab work.
  • Schedule patient appointments, coordinate office visits, and handle phone calls.
  • Verify insurance information and obtain pre-authorizations when needed.
  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies and ensure proper stock levels.
  • Process medical records, referral documentation, and other office paperwork.
  • Provide clear instructions to patients regarding pre-procedure preparations (e.g., fasting, bowel prep).
  • Educate patients on gastrointestinal health, treatment options, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Address patient questions and concerns in a professional, empathetic manner.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program required.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA) is a plus.
  • Previous experience in a medical setting, particularly in gastroenterology or a related specialty, is preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, patient care, and infection control procedures.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and a caring, patient-centered approach.
  • Familiarity with EHR systems and basic office software.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a medical team and provide exceptional care.
