Job Title: Medical Assistant
Location: North Austin
Position Type: Contract to Hire
Pay: $18-20/hr.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet patients, verify personal and medical information, and document medical history.
- Measure and record vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, weight, etc.).
- Prepare patients for examinations and assist with positioning during procedures.
- Assist in endoscopy and other gastrointestinal procedures as directed by the physician.
- Provide patient education on gastrointestinal conditions, procedures, and post-treatment care.
- Assist with preparing and cleaning equipment for procedures such as colonoscopies, endoscopies, and biopsies.
- Handle specimens and perform basic laboratory tests (e.g., stool tests, blood draws).
- Maintain and manage patient medical records using the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Prepare and administer medications and injections as prescribed by the physician.
- Assist with follow-up care, including scheduling tests, treatments, and lab work.
- Schedule patient appointments, coordinate office visits, and handle phone calls.
- Verify insurance information and obtain pre-authorizations when needed.
- Maintain inventory of medical supplies and ensure proper stock levels.
- Process medical records, referral documentation, and other office paperwork.
- Provide clear instructions to patients regarding pre-procedure preparations (e.g., fasting, bowel prep).
- Educate patients on gastrointestinal health, treatment options, and lifestyle modifications.
- Address patient questions and concerns in a professional, empathetic manner.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program required.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA) is a plus.
- Previous experience in a medical setting, particularly in gastroenterology or a related specialty, is preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, patient care, and infection control procedures.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills and a caring, patient-centered approach.
- Familiarity with EHR systems and basic office software.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a medical team and provide exceptional care.
