Medical Interpreter 

Pay: Competitive hourly rate, negotiable based on experience

Summary:

Seeking a dedicated Medical Interpreter to facilitate effective communication between Spanish-speaking patients, families, and healthcare providers within the Kish Health System. This role emphasizes cultural competency, accuracy, and compassion in delivering interpretation services across various healthcare settings. The interpreter will serve as a vital link ensuring that language barriers do not impede patient care and understanding, contributing to a positive and inclusive healthcare environment.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional college coursework preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Medical Interpreter
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish, demonstrated through Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) or Interpreter Readiness Assessment
  • Certification in Medical Interpreting (e.g., Certified Healthcare Interpreter or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare protocols
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in both languages
  • Basic proficiency in computer applications such as Excel and EPIC
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including daytime schedules
  • Valid interpretation certification and legal compliance credentials

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate clear communication between LEP patients, family members, and healthcare staff across all hospital departments
  • Respond promptly to page requests, assessing priority needs and providing timely interpretation services
  • Conduct patient rounding to identify interpretation needs and document interventions accurately in the medical record
  • Act as a cultural liaison, conveying patient concerns and ensuring sensitive handling of culture-specific issues
  • Assist with translation of written materials, including discharge instructions and informational documents
  • Support departmental projects relating to translation, editing, and quality assurance
  • Maintain compliance with healthcare regulations, confidentiality policies, and organizational standards
  • Other duties as assigned to support hospital operations and patient care excellence
