Senior Accountant - Rental Asset Management
Title: Senior Accountant
Location: Hybrid in Monroe, NC
Duration: FTE/Direct-hire
Role Summary
The Senior Accountant supports the organization by collecting, reviewing, and interpreting financial information related to rental assets. This role plays a key part in the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes and ensures timely and accurate reporting. The Senior Accountant applies established accounting principles and company procedures to resolve various operational and technical accounting matters. The position requires sound judgment, strong analytical capability, and the ability to work through moderately complex financial issues.
Primary Responsibilities

Lead the monthly close process, including preparing financial statements, account reconciliations, and required journal entries.

Produce monthly reporting packages such as Actual vs. Budget results, Income Statements, Balance Sheets, and operating performance analyses.

Partner with Accounts Payable to support accruals and month-end cutoffs.

Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations and maintain supporting documentation.

Maintain department checklists for closing, reporting, and reconciliation tasks.

Record HUD-related closing entries for rental assets.

Track and manage property tax assessments, bills, and changes in tax trends.

Oversee property and general liability insurance activity for rental assets and monitor rate fluctuations.

Provide cash-flow data supporting capital calls, debt funding needs, and liquidity forecasts.

Prepare and update debt schedules for rental entities.

Maintain general ledger activity for rental entities and update AppFolio records as needed.

Compile financial statements for all rental entities and reconcile balance sheet accounts.

Enter capital calls, distributions, and asset information into Juniper Square.

Coordinate with lending partners to secure debt draws related to rental properties.

Perform additional duties as assigned to support the finance and accounting team.
Performance Expectations

Complete month-end close tasks per the established closing schedule.

Maintain accurate and timely balance sheet reconciliations.

Deliver monthly financial reporting packages within required timelines.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.

3–5 years of relevant accounting experience, including general ledger activities, financial reporting, and analysis.

Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.

Experience in the homebuilding or real estate industry preferred.

CPA or CMA is a plus.

Familiarity with Sage accounting software preferred.

High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
